Remembering Local Meteorologist Doug Hill

Lawrence Douglas “Doug” Hill was a prominent meteorologist in the DC metro area. The legendary local meteorologist was synonymous with DC area weather for over three decades. He was born on July 29, 1950, in Towson, Maryland, and passed away on November 22, 2021, at the age of 71 in Leland, North Carolina.

Hill graduated from Towson State College. His path to meteorology was not direct, according to WUSA9. Before beginning his career in weather, he served for four years in the United States Air Force, primarily stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. After his military service, he spent six years as the public information officer for Prince George’s County Police.

Doug Hill’s meteorology career began in Richmond, Virginia, where he got his first opportunity as the weekend weatherman at WWBT-TV. He then moved to Detroit, working at WXYZ for four and a half years…
