Surveillance footage from the Elmwood neighborhood has captured a car theft in progress, highlighting a troubling surge in vehicle thefts across the city. The video shows a black 2017 Hyundai Tucson being stolen, with several individuals exiting the vehicle before it is abandoned in an alley. Police later confirmed that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, also seen in the footage, was stolen.
A resident from the same street recounted, “I was, actually walked outside the morning of, when police were outside,” and expressed concerns about the rising thefts, saying, “I’m thinking about getting an anti-theft device.”
According to the latest crime data released by the Baltimore Police Department, 76 vehicles were reported stolen in the last seven days, averaging 11 cars stolen daily. “It’s just, it’s insane,” said another resident. “And you like come roll on your block and make sure no one’s like, looking at your car funny or sitting on your stoop, waiting to get your car.”…
