Next weekend marks the beginning of one of the most crucial phases of Key Bridge pre-construction: pile driving tests.
Piles are long, underground cylinders that serve as key support for large structures. Beginning on Saturday, September 27, the Maryland Transportation Authority will drive numerous 220-foot-long, 8-foot-diameter piles into the Patapsco River to ensure that the piles can withstand the underwater pressure and ensure that they can support the new bridge’s structure.
Per a previous Dundalk Eagle report, the MDTA is monitoring noise and vibrations in the neighboring community of Turner Station to create a gauge of how loud construction efforts will be in the next few years…
