Maryland’s juvenile crime strategy under scrutiny as residents call for tougher measures

(WBFF) — As questions surface surrounding current juvenile crime strategies many residents are demanding the state take a new approach toward reducing juvenile crime.

“The overwhelming number of people in Baltimore want juveniles to do some kind of time,” Baltimore resident Donna Ann Ward said.

Ward penned a petition that drew more than 4,000 signatures calling for the removal of former DJS Secretary Vincent Schiraldi. She’s convinced detention, not diversion, is the only strategy to insure progress with juveniles…
