Mayor Brandon Scott touts decline in Baltimore overdoses amid skepticism

BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF) — City officials acknowledge ongoing challenges in Baltimore’s opioid crisis, but Mayor Brandon Scott remains optimistic, saying on Wednesday there’s a decline in overdose numbers.

“Folks are always looking for that one thing to solve that tough problem, but this is one of those things that there isn’t one thing,” Scott said, emphasizing a comprehensive approach similar to tackling gun violence.

Baltimore City Fire Department Chief James Wallace noted, “We monitor daily our call volume and also, the nature of our calls. And it’s not just been since Penn and North, but we’ve seen that downward trend.”…
