BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A clash between members of the Baltimore City Council and Mayor Brandon Scott is set to accelerate next month as lawmakers begin public hearings on a bill that would tighten oversight of the taxpayer-backed Baltimore Children and Youth Fund (BCYF).
The Dec. 18 hearing will mark the council’s first formal effort to compel greater transparency and accountability from an organization that has received millions in city dollars but has not submitted required financial audits for three consecutive years.
At stake is how Baltimore safeguards more than $16 million in annual taxpayer funds for youth programs and who has the authority to control, monitor and audit that money.
