Local leaders react to resignation of Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Local leaders are reacting after Maryland House of Delegates Speaker Adrienne Jones (D-Baltimore County) on Thursday announced she would be stepping down from the leadership role after more than six years.

Jones, 71, is expected to remain a member of the House of Delegates representing Baltimore County’s 10th District, according to sources familiar with her decision.

“I wish her nothing but the best, and I am sorry to see the Speaker resign,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga. “As leaders of the Republican Caucus, Delegate Nic Kipke and I were proud to have played an important role in electing Adrienne Jones as the first woman and first African American Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates.”…
