Baltimore, Maryland – As the winter solstice arrives this Sunday, colder overnight temperatures across Maryland are increasing the risk of frozen and burst pipes, putting homes in Baltimore at elevated risk for water damage as winter fully settles in. Longer nights and repeated freezes create ideal conditions for plumbing failures, especially in older homes.
According to the National Weather Service and the Maryland State Fire Marshal, pipes located in unheated basements, crawl spaces, attics, and along exterior walls are most vulnerable when temperatures remain below freezing for several hours.
