Maryland Sues U.S. Department of Education Over Cuts to Community School Funding

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, along with the attorneys general of North Carolina and the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education alleging it unlawfully cut congressionally approved funding for Full Service Community School programs without following required federal procedures.

The suit asks a federal court to block the funding discontinuations, arguing they violate the Administrative Procedure Act and would eliminate academic, health, and social support services for students and families, including programs run by the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
