Two rounds of wintry weather on tap for Baltimore area this weekend

BALTIMORE, MD—The Baltimore area is bracing for two rounds of wintry precipitation this weekend, though forecasters say significant snow accumulation remains unlikely, with only minor amounts possible mainly north and west of the metropolitan region.

A developing low-pressure system is expected to bring a mix of rain and snow to the area starting Saturday morning, Jan. 17. The National Weather Service forecast for Baltimore calls for rain and snow showers likely before 1 p.m., transitioning to a slight chance of rain showers in the early afternoon. Highs are projected to reach near 46 degrees, with a 60% chance of precipitation and south winds at 5 to 8 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible, although potential slick roads are possible from a brief wintry mix.
