Three Baltimore City Schools on verge of being labeled persistently dangerous

Baltimore (WBFF) — For the first time in more than a decade, Maryland may soon label one or more public schools as “Persistently Dangerous”. And all of the schools are in Baltimore City.

‘Persistently Dangerous’ is a term, under Maryland state law, that’s used to describe a school with serious problems.

A school is labeled “persistently dangerous” if for “3 consecutive school years, the total number of student suspensions and or expulsions for more than 10 days” for certain violent acts “equals 2-1/2 percent or more of the total number of students enrolled in the school.”

There are roughly 1,400 public schools in Maryland. Currently, zero are considered persistently dangerous. But that could soon change. According to the Maryland State Department of Education, three Baltimore City Public Schools are on probation and could be deemed “persistently dangerous” beginning next school year…
