Joppa resident sails away with $50,000 Maryland Lottery win

JOPPA, MD—A Joppa man’s keen eye and a routine stop for gas have turned into a dream vacation. Brian Hutchison, a government contractor and self-described Maryland Lottery aficionado, claimed a $50,000 second-tier prize last Friday after playing the popular 100X the Cash scratch-off game.

The win is the first of its kind for the newly released $20 ticket, which launched earlier this month.

A Second Look Saves the Day

The winning moment happened while Hutchison was on his way to his girlfriend’s house. He stopped at the Wawa located at 3500 Woodsdale Road in Abingdon to check for new scratch-off releases. Spotting the 100X the Cash game, he decided to give it a try.

Initially, Hutchison almost missed his fortune. After scratching the ticket, he overlooked a matching number nine that carried the $50,000 prize. Fortunately, his habit of verifying tickets prevented a costly mistake…
