Dundalk family says grandmother was wrongly declared dead, cutting off health coverage

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A Dundalk family said a startling error in Maryland’s Medicaid system left their elderly loved one without health coverage for weeks after the state mistakenly declared her deceased.

Jessica Bafutis said her 87-year-old grandmother, Patsy Bouthner, was recently diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and depends on Medicaid to cover doctor visits and prescription medications. That care, the family said, was abruptly cut off after the state incorrectly listed Bouthner as dead.

“I don’t know how that happened,” Bafutis said. “That’s not a mistake. She’s alive.”…
