Flights Cancelled Ahead of Blizzard in Northeast

A rapidly intensifying storm triggered blizzard warnings Saturday for New York City, New Jersey and Boston as communities along the East Coast prepared for the Sunday arrival of heavy snow and damaging winds.

The National Weather Service increased its assessment of the potential severity of Winter Storm Hernando, projected to be much milder only days earlier.

  • First blizzard warning in New York City since 2017.
  • Winds of 25 to 35 mph (40 to 56 kph) with gusts 45 to 55 mph expected Sunday night.

  • Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas are under winter storm watch.
