‘Situation is worsening’: Baltimore City’s high school dropout rate hits 15-year high

Annapolis, Md. (WBFF) — The high school dropout rate in the Baltimore region is increasing at an alarming rate. In Baltimore City Public Schools, the high school dropout rate has hit a 15-year high.

Dr. Barbara Dezmon has devoted her life to public education. She spent 35 as a teacher, turned administrator, for Baltimore County Public Schools – followed by 13 years as the Education Chair for the Maryland State Conference NAACP. She told Fox45 News if the dropout rate’s upward trend is not reversed soon, there will be dire consequences for our region.

“These children have limited prospects for their futures,” stated Dezmon. “They’re going to continue living probably in substandard conditions and in poverty.”…
