‘Drug kingpin’ arrested in Fairmont for allegedly selling meth, fentanyl

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Maryland man accused of being a drug kingpin has been arrested and is facing charges after task force members say they uncovered bulk amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl during a search in Fairmont.

According to a criminal complaint, on Feb. 25, the Three Rivers Drug Task Force, alongside the Fairmont and White Hall police departments, executed a search warrant at a room at the Country Club Motor Lodge in Fairmont.

Task force members said that the warrant was obtained in order to locate evidence relating to an investigation into multiple people, including Marcus Garland, 54, of Baltimore, Md., who allegedly conspired to possess and distribute meth and fentanyl in the Fairmont area.

When task force members entered the room, they said they made contact with Garland and detained him. They then searched the room and found multiple items used to cut, weigh and package controlled substances such as “snuff spoons,” aluminum foil, sandwich bags and cutting agents, the complaint said.

Task Force members also said they located a duffel bag containing a “large amount” of cash, as well as “bulk quantities” of fentanyl and meth inside the room’s furniture. Task Force members said they also found bulk amounts of meth and fentanyl when searching a nearby residence, adding that Garland would sell these substances from his room at the lodge…
