For Caplan’s Auction & Appraisal Co., which specializes in antiques and collectables, a modern playbook drives their success in the nostalgia business.
While more recent area residents may have done business during the last two decades at Caplan’s at its current address ― in Savage Mill’s Cotton Shed Building ― long-time locals can recall a different time at its prior locations on Main Street, in Historic Ellicott City; and even earlier, in Oella.
Caplan’s history dates back decades. Co-Owners Shelley and John Harris recalled the move to the Mill about two decades ago, with Shelly noting how they “appreciated the Mill’s more central location” between Baltimore and Washington, as well as it dotting the map between Annapolis and Columbia…
