SUN: Jury finds Columbia mom guilty of attempted murder in ‘vigilante’ shooting

HOWARD COUNTY, MD. (WBFF) — A Howard County jury found Columbia mom Wyketa Burgess guilty Thursday of attempted second-degree murder for her part in the 2024 shooting of four teens in a Giant parking lot, in what prosecutors called a case of “vigilante justice.”

The prosecution said Burgess and a fellow mother, Dieneba Traore, plotted the shooting to avenge for their sons being robbed and threatened. Burgess’ and Traore’s sons are cousins.

“[The case is about] the devastating consequences that occur when people take justice into their own hands,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Tiffany Vaira during opening statements at the trial last week…
