Baltimore County Police Department honors Officer Amy Caprio on 8-year anniversary of her line-of-duty death

PERRY HALL, MD—Members of the Baltimore County Police Department are wearing mourning bands on their badges today to honor the memory of Officer Amy Sorrells Caprio, marking eight years since she was killed in the line of duty.

On May 21, 2018, the 29-year-old officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Perry Hall area. A second emergency call soon confirmed that a nearby home was being burglarized by four suspects associated with the vehicle, which investigators later determined was stolen.

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Caprio exited her police cruiser and ordered the driver of the stolen Jeep Wrangler to step out of the vehicle. The driver refused the command and accelerated, striking and fatally injuring her…
