Weather Aware: Parish-by-parish updates ahead of potential flooding from heavy rain

Multiple parishes are monitoring the potential for heavy rainfall this week and the possibility for flooding. The National Weather Service in New Orleans is currently predicting southeast Louisiana could see 4-6” of additional rainfall through Friday evening, with lower totals in coastal southeast Louisiana.

Localized rainfall amounts could be much higher where rain bands repeatedly move across the same areas. The National Weather Service warns that some locations across the state could see between 10 and 20 inches of rainfall before the event ends.

State Climatologist Jay Grymes said the potentially heavy rain is due to multiple factors, including a front to the north that is helping to pull in moisture from the Gulf and a disturbance over Mexico. This combination could produce “really significant rainfall totals” through the week, he added…
