Baton Rouge skate shop launches new ‘sweet’ shoe at beloved donut shop

Last Saturday, the Mary Lee donut shop on Drusilla Lane was serving up a different kind of sweet treat to their Baton Rouge patrons — the Rukus X Nike Dunk Low “Donut,” a pink and chocolate brown sneaker.

Shoe collectors and Nike fans stood in line for the special collaboration shoe and munched on frosted donuts in the shape of the Nike symbol and the Rukus “R.”

Rukus, a 26-year-old Baton Rouge skate shop, has gained notoriety in the sneaker world for their Louisiana-themed skateboarding shoes.

Jaylin Ordone, chief executive officer, and his business partner, Devin Chriss, chose the Nike Dunk shoe for a special collaboration to tell the Rukus 103 story. The business uses 103 in its brand because the police code for a disturbance is 103. The idea of a donut shoe inspired by the connection of police officers and donuts struck a chord.

“As soon as we saw that Nike was coming out with a donut dunk shoe, we knew it was a perfect opportunity to tell Nike our concept,” Ordone said…
