BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Companion Animal Alliance representative stated that the open intake shelter is at the tail end of a canine distemper outbreak, nearly two weeks after it was first detected.
As of Monday, according to Director of Development Holly Danielson, 44 dogs tested positive while 64 tested negative for the contagious virus. The outbreak was identified on June 17, and the shelter quickly activated its disease response protocols.
“We got a lot of data and test results back last week at the end of last week that has enabled us to formulate a plan moving forward. We feel confident in our containment of the disease at the shelter and we look forward to resuming regular operations tomorrow,” Danielson said…
