Baton Rouge Metro Council Introduces Five Adjudicated Lots Starting at $100—But Real Costs Can Top $7,000

Five vacant lots across South Baton Rouge, Scotland Addition, and Valley Park could soon transfer to new owners under the parish’s Mow to Own program—but the real cash required ranges from a few hundred dollars to more than $7,000 once back taxes and fees are factored in.

The Metro Council introduced the five adjudicated property cases on the Metro Council agenda, with a public hearing set for August 26. Two lots sit in the South Baton Rouge subdivision—one on Jefferson Davis Street, one on Tyler Street—both in Council District 10. A third is on Finch Street in Scotland Addition. The remaining two are adjacent parcels on Delta Street in Valley Park, in Council District 7.

The Jefferson Davis Street lot carries a $100 opening bid, but buyers must also pay $555 in advanced costs and $1,393.35 in back taxes, on a lot assessed at $9,900…
