PLAQUEMINE, La. (WAFB) – The widow of a fallen Iberville Parish Deputy who is suing Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, his son and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office asked a judge for a change of venue Friday. Last week, she filed a motion to have all of the judges recused.
The motion asks to move the trial because the trial venue is in the very building where Deputy Charles Riley was shot and killed. The filing states that the trial “would be conducted inside the Iberville Parish Courthouse … the very building in which Deputy Charles William Riley was shot and killed on October 6, 2025,” and that “the interview and interrogation room, the monitoring room, and the hallway in which Deputy Riley collapsed are located within that building and are themselves the scene of the events at issue.”
The motion asks that the case be moved to Pointe Coupee Parish or, alternatively, Avoyelles Parish. The motion also says, “Sheriff Brett Stassi, Sr., is the duly elected Sheriff of Iberville Parish. The jurors summoned to sit in judgment of his conduct, and of the conduct of his office, would be drawn exclusively from the electorate of Iberville Parish.”…
