Louisiana’s McLindon foundation gives bikes to kids who thought they’d never ride one

The McLindon Family Foundation has a mission to provide adaptive bikes to children with special needs so they can build critical core strength, boost confidence and nurture friendships. The Baton Rouge-based foundation, started in 2008 by Andrew McLindon, has given away hundreds of bikes to children and young adults with conditions like spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Batten disease, CHARGE syndrome, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, autism and more.

With each ride, participants maximize their potential and participation in society.

Executive Director Allison Oubre joined the foundation in 2019 after seeing an “NBC Nightly News” story about it. She left her full-time job at Nothing Bundt Cakes and joined the foundation to “do something good,” she said. Today, she has many responsibilities, including fundraising, grant writing, collaborating with physical therapists, ordering the adaptive bikes, attending bike deliveries and connecting with local businesses…
