St. George house fire caused by lightning strike displaces 4 residents

ST. GEORGE — A house fire that displaced four people on John Newcombe Avenue was caused by a lightning strike, the St. George Fire Department said Tuesday.

On Sep. 7, firefighters arrived to find a single-story home with heavy smoke coming from the eaves and visible fire near the rear of the residence.

Firefighters found flames in the garage and attic. Crews pulled portions of the ceiling to reach the fire and knocked down the main body of it before moving on to remaining hot spots. Additional crews established a water supply, searched the residence and helped with overhaul operations…
