BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – People planning to attend Southern University’s 2026 Homecoming Parade on Sunday, Sept. 27, will need to know about several safety reminders and rules.
The parade is set to get underway at 1 p.m. and will roll along parts of Harding Blvd., Scotland Ave., and Scenic Hwy. According to East Baton Rouge Metro Councilman Anthony Kenney, parts of each road along the parade route are expected to be closed from noon through 4 p.m.
Keeping areas clean and safe
Kenney urged community members to share in the spirit of homecoming and the community, which he said includes looking out for others and keeping trash off the ground.
“As we come together for Southern University Homecoming Week and the parade this Sunday, let’s show pride in our community by keeping our streets and neighborhoods clean,” Kenney explained. “Please dispose of trash properly, pick up litter when you can, and help us leave Scotlandville better than we found it. Let’s celebrate responsibly and keep Scotlandville beautiful.”
Rules and reminders for floats
According to the Southern Foundation, all parade drivers must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and must have adequate training to drive their assigned vehicles. Double-decker floats and 18-wheelers are prohibited. In addition, drivers must have an unobstructed view of the road, and parade vehicles must have at least 14 feet of clearance from utility lines…
