The Baton Rouge Police Department is relocating its Highland Road precinct to establish a location downtown in the Masonic building on Third Street.
The Metro Council approved a resolution Wednesday for a 10-year, $500,000 sublease for the police department to take up the first two floors of developer Mike Wampold’s building at 200 Third St. The third floor will continue to be operated by the St. James Lodge No. 47 Masons.
This building will house BRPD Precinct 2, which is currently at 2265 Highland Road. Mayor-President Sid Edwards and Police Chief T.J. Morse have said the move is due to the department outgrowing that location, not because of any perceived safety problems downtown…
