Baton Rouge government corruption cases get new lead prosecutor with federal experience

A former federal prosecutor who handled several high-profile cases in Louisiana has joined Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office to lead the state’s prosecutions of several current and former Baton Rouge public officials accused of corruption after the previous top attorney took another job.

John Luke Walker, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, will oversee bribery and corruption cases involving Baton Rouge officials, including those against council member Cleve Dunn Jr. and schools superintendent LaMont Cole, a spokesperson for Murrill’s office confirmed Thursday.
