Louisiana man accused of attempting to stab victim in Monroe, leading police on high-speed chase in stolen vehicle

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On January 7, 2024, at 5:02 AM, the Monroe Police Department was called to Mississippi Street. Officers learned that Keith Franklin Sr. of Port Allen, La. was the suspect.

According to court documents, a female victim was sitting inside her work van when she heard a “sizzle” sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The sound that the victim described was the air from the vehicle’s rear tires after they were slashed.

When the victim rolled down her driver’s side window, Franklin allegedly began punching the victim in the head and pulling the victim’s hair. Officers learned that Franklin was allegedly armed with a knife and stated, “I’m going to kill you, right here on these premises.”

Officers determined that the victim possessed defensive wounds and the victim’s work van had punctures in each tire. According to authorities, Franklin fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and led police on a high-speed chase. Franklin was taken into custody on January 10, 2024.
