90-Degree Record-Breaking Heat Sweeps Through New Orleans and Louisiana Gulf Coast

New Orleans, LA – Unseasonably warm temperatures shattered records across the Gulf Coast today, with Baton Rouge, Gulfport, and New Orleans International Airport all setting new November highs. Baton Rouge hit an astonishing 90°F by mid-afternoon, marking the latest 90°F temperature on record. This comes just two days after Baton Rouge set a previous record of 91°F.

The National Weather Service reported only scattered showers along the Mississippi coast and parts of the Atchafalaya River Basin, where storms have since dissipated. The rest of the area has remained dry under a ridge of high pressure near Bermuda, while a stationary front lingers over western Louisiana.

As Major Hurricane Rafael makes landfall on Cuba’s west coast, meteorologists are closely monitoring the conditions, though the storm is not currently impacting the local area.
