BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One teen was in critical condition after a shooting in Baker on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Emergency Medical Services confirmed that a teenager was transported from the 1000 block of Florida Avenue in Baker with critical injuries.
Additional information about the patient or how they got hurt was not available.
A report from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions that looked at 2022 CDC data was published in September. It showed that guns were the leading cause of death for kids and teens ages 1 to 17 . Since 2013, gun-related deaths for this age group increased 106%. The report also noted that Black juveniles were 18 times more likely to die because of a firearm than a white child.
