BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — If you’re in town for the holidays, you may not have been expecting the possibility of severe weather. Forecasters are predicting that bad weather could hit us on Saturday.
After visiting family for the holidays, people like Walter Harrison, a Baton Rouge native and current Houston resident, are preparing for driving in any weather.
“I was supposed to go back today, but I was convinced to stay another day, and I’ll be heading back in the morning. I came to visit my daughter and bring her back from Houston. She lives here,” he said.
“If you’re thinking of coming into Baton Rouge closer to midnight, come earlier, like before 9 p.m. By Sunday at daybreak, things should settle,” said State Climatologist Jay Grymes.
Grymes has a few tips if you get caught by severe weather this weekend on the road.
Baton Rouge weekend forecast: Heavy rain, strong wind, possible severe weather
“One of the things I see people doing on the interstate is, when starts to rain heavy, they put on their flashers, but, legally, that’s a no-no. Also, don’t pull off onto the shoulder and sit there,” he said.
