On Monday, the state is remembering Badawi, who was a student at the University of Alabama and a recent graduate of Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge.
At a Sunday news conference, Landry said Badawi played football at Episcopal High School last year and was a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Alabama.
Landry said Badawi’s friend Travis said while remembering him, “It was never about Kareem it was always about others and that’s what made him unique.”
Louisiana State Superintendent Cade Brumley also asked school systems to consider a moment of silence at 9 a.m. during the period of mourning.
