Some Port Allen residents are skeptical of a proposal to build a 44-unit residential complex in the city, saying the developer’s claim that the project will expand affordable housing offerings on the Westside doesn’t hold water.
“Some of the stuff he’s spouting out does not even make sense,” Port Allen resident Maggie Edward said. “A one-bedroom, $1,200?”
David Strange, owner of Mississippi-based Rowanoak Development LLC, introduced his proposal at last week’s Port Allen City Council meeting to buy 8 acres from the city at 605 N. 15th St. and use state and federal funds designed for disaster-resilient affordable housing to build the new complex, which would be filled with free-standing houses…
