The window in which severe thunderstorms could pummel New Orleans and Baton Rouge with hurricane-force winds, rain and tornadoes Saturday is becoming smaller, National Weather Service forecasters said Thursday afternoon.
Weather service meteorologist Kevin Gilmore said in a video briefing at 3:30 p.m. Thursday that scattered storms are expected to start picking up across southeast Louisiana at around 10 a.m. Saturday. They could be slow to start.
But the situation is expected to escalate quickly during the afternoon as temperatures rise, bringing the possibility for large hail, wind gusts of more than 80 mph, and long track or strong tornadoes of EF2 strength or greater to the region encompassing New Orleans, Baton Rouge and the northshore…
