Man faces hate crime charge after allegedly throwing brick at police unit for second time

BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge man has been arrested again for allegedly throwing a brick at a Baton Rouge Police officer’s patrol car, shattering the rear window. Emmitt Cossett was arrested less than a month after being taken into custody for the same offense back in February.

This time, Cossett’s charges have been upgraded. He now faces one count of simple criminal damage to property and one count of a hate crime.

According to arrest records, the most recent incident happened on March 19 around 10:30 p.m. A Baton Rouge Police officer was sitting in his marked unit in the parking lot of Shoppers Value on Airline Highway when a brick struck the rear windshield.
