Soulful sounds and savory traditions come together once again as the 8th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival returns May 17-18 at the East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library.
This free, family-friendly event celebrates the rich cultural roots of soul food and music with a weekend of live blues, R&B, gospel, jazz, and more. Alongside the entertainment, festivalgoers can enjoy a judged soul food cooking contest, a lively Vendor’s Village, and the presentation of the Pioneer Award, honoring a key contributor to the soul food community. Taking the stage are Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, joined by the Listening Room All-stars including Ervin “Maestro” Foster, King Solomon, Kelton ‘Nspire Harper, Pastor Leon Hitchens and comedian Eddie “Cool” Deemer. The lineup of also features local talent in blues, soul, R&B, jazz, gospel and Christian music.
Saturday’s talent is the Phoenix Rouge Dance Troup, motivational rapper the Outlaw David James from Nebraska, Christian rapper Stephen King, Ny’Aria, an R&B/Soul singer from Houston, the old school dance band LA Groove, Southern Soul and Blues act Jelly B & D’Wolf, the gospel jazz band, Eilene Rockette and the TBJ Band with guest, the TMQ jazz band from Bermuda and SmokeHouse Porter and the Gut Bucket Blues Band…
