BATON ROUGE, La. ( Louisiana First ) – A major makeover for one of the busiest interchanges in the state has just rolled out. If you drive by there, the improvement is obvious.
One of the leaders of the big money project is giving a closer look at how we got here and what has changed. Drivers who use the College Drive exit ramps from the interstate say they’re excited about how much easier it is this week.
Mark Lambert with the College Drive Flyover Project said these new exit ramps have been in the works for years, with the lanes finally opening this week. Lambert says, “It makes for a lot less weaving. It’s good for anyone driving around College Drive, on I-10, or I-12. It’s neat, it’s more convenient. People getting on it will intuitively catch on very quickly.” He said the project aims to help traffic flow and make driving safer, with new dedicated exit ramps for College Drive from westbound I-10 and I-12. “We think it’ll help people exiting and people staying on I-10. It’ll make things more convenient and safer,” Lambert mentioned. Congestion near the 10/12 split prompted the need for this makeover. Heavy traffic makes it hard to drive, especially during rush hour. Lambert says, “I just took the exit today for the first time off I-12,” said Lambert. “It’s cool. You’re just zipping along, with all the traffic to the left.” Prepare to see more construction in the area. Crews are still finishing the project even though the lanes are open. Everything should be cleared up by May 12, 2025…
