St. George approves first step for University Club 113-home development despite residents’ outcry

The City of St. George Planning Commission approved the first step for the proposed development for 113 new homes in the University Club neighborhood.

About 50 University Club residents packed the Monday planning commission meeting to voice their concerns about the proposed preliminary plat for development. Residents and representatives of the developer argued their cases for over an hour to the planning commission. Ultimately, the planning commission approved moving forward in a 3-2 vote.

The proposal would build 113 single-family homes in the neighborhood and require most of the wetlands to be destroyed for development. Many residents have expressed concern or dissatisfaction with the plan since it’s proposal in 2024 over potentially losing their scenic views as well as worries about flooding, traffic issues and loss of wildlife…
