Man killed in Fourth of July shooting in Geismar, juvenile suspect facing charges

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened during a Fourth of July party in Geismar, leaving an 18-year-old dead and another person injured.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Dave Miller Road around 10 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, they found Justin Scott, 18, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Scott was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

According to APSO, Scott and a second male subject were involved in an altercation during the gathering, which escalated into an exchange of gunfire. The second male, who was also shot, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
