BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Almost 9 years after her husband’s murder, Trenisha Jackson is still giving back to the community in his name every single year. Baton Rouge Police Officer Montrell Jackson was murdered in a 2016 ambush along with another officer and a sheriff’s deputy. His widow started a foundation four years after his death to organize consistent community events.
Jackson turns her grief into goodness and has been giving away backpacks full of school supplies for the past few years. This year at Chateau Lyle, the Montrell Jackson Foundation gave away 160 backpacks within 28 minutes. Over the years, she says she has given away over a thousand.
Jackson says it’s about bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community, but also keeping Montrell’s memory alive…
