BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — People can get prepared now for heavy rain headed to Louisiana from a potential Gulf tropical development.

Potential tropical development chances increased to 40% within the next 48 hours as of the latest Louisiana First News Stormtracker team’s update. Right now, an area of disturbed activity is producing showers and thunderstorms near Florida.

Once the disturbance enters the Gulf, it would have marginally favorable conditions to strengthen into a tropical depression or storm. If it upgrades into a storm, it would be named Dexter.
