BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Crime Stoppers tip system has solved thousands of crimes across the nation and here in South Louisiana. The Executive Director of the Capital Region Crimestoppers, Jonny Dunnam, says anyone who submits a tip that leads to a felony arrest is able to get a cash reward. Within the last few years, they implemented a new incentive where the reward doubles for reliable tips given within the first 48 hours of a crime being committed.
“Last year, the tips to Crime Stoppers solved 9 homicides and 156 other felony crimes, armed robberies, burglaries, you know lots of narcotics cases, a lot of fugitive arrests,” Dunnam said. “Our minimum reward is usually $250. I think that’s the least we pay for a tip. You know, if it’s a felony theft tip or, you know, a fugitive, that the department has posted online and we’ve shared that fugitive on our Crime Stoppers Facebook page, we’re going to pay at least $250.
But a reward can go up to $5,000. Dunnam says it all depends on the case and the information given. It has to be helpful in solving a crime or making an arrest…
