Today, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. inducted John K. Pierre, Chancellor of Southern University and A&M College, as an Honorary Member during its 2025 International Conclave in Tampa, Florida. The recognition honors decades of leadership in legal education, public service, and community advancement.
A Southern University alumnus, Pierre holds a bachelor’s in accounting, a master’s in tax accounting from Texas Tech University, and a law degree from Southern Methodist University. After serving as a JAG officer in the U.S. Army, he joined the Southern University Law Center as a faculty member in 1990 and later became its chancellor.
In July 2024, he was named Chancellor of Southern University and A&M College. His visionary leadership blends academic excellence with community-focused innovation. From technology and strategic partnerships to social justice advocacy, Pierre is known as a champion of access and opportunity.
He has taught at institutions across the country and has published widely on topics including tax law, real estate, and contracts. His legal work includes serving as co-counsel in the Baton Rouge school desegregation case and the landmark McWaters v. FEMA case.
