Pediatrician shares advice as young people prepare to head back to school

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Young people are already preparing to head back to class, and there is a lot to think about before the school bell goes off for the first time.

Dr. Susan Bankston, a pediatrician with the Baton Rouge Clinic, said some of the most important things that parents should consider are a child’s vision and hearing. A young person can’t reach his or her full potential if they have trouble seeing or hearing.

“If you have any doubts, any questions, we, as a routine, test everybody vision and hearing at age five,” Dr. Bankston said. “But when they’re nine, if you’re having a question, please talk to your pediatrician about the vision and hearing check.”…
