Help for low income Louisiana residents fighting the IRS

BATON ROUGE, La (WGNO) — A problem for many low income residents that have issues with the Internal Revenue Service is that often times you can’t afford to pay back taxes, let alone fight the IRS.

The LSU School of Law Low Income Tax Clinic is assisting residents. Director Cherish Van Mullemaddressed the challenges faced.

“When you get a notice from the IRS, it’s very disturbing. And it’s even more disturbing when you try to deal with it by yourself. The IRS is not exactly a friendly place, and they speak a different language,” said Van Mullem.
