Southern Classic Chicken, a family-run fried chicken franchise, opened its doors to the first Baton Rouge customers Thursday, July 31. The grand opening of the chicken shop, at 3410 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd., drew hundreds of awaiting customers.
Cars were wrapped around the drive thru and along South Sherwood Forest Boulevard on Friday, creating a traffic jam in the city. The shop opened in Lafayette in early June to similar fanfare. Cars were lined up around the restaurant before they opened.
The menu at Southern Classic Chicken includes classic combos of dark, mixed and white fried chicken along with a handful of delectable sides to go with each order — from coleslaw to mashed potatoes and gravy. Customers can even get an extra side of a whole jalapeño pepper.
