Zachary man arrested in deadly trail ride shooting in Ascension Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Zachary man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that happened Saturday evening during a trail ride event in the Modeste area, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Anwar McKenney, 43, is facing charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons in the death of Brandon Cayette, 40, of Donaldsonville.

Deputies were called to the scene around 5 p.m. on Aug. 2 after reports of a shooting outside a residence along Highway 405, near the Sportsman Lounge. APSO said that when deputies arrived, they found Cayette unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
