(KMDL-FM) It is August in South Louisiana, and it is supposed to be hot. However, it’s not supposed to be “feels like” 110 in the shade hot, but that’s what folks in Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Baton Rouge, and other communities could be dealing with again today. I am guessing you’re like me and hoping for some relief.
Well, we have good news to report to you, Mother Nature has heard your request, and it looks as if there is a very real possibility that by the time Louisiana’s Ragin Cajuns and the McNeese Cowboys open play in the 2025 college football season on August 30th fans in the stands could be enjoying the game in temperatures below 90 degrees.
But before we get to a football forecast more than a week and a half away, let’s catch you up on the near term. Today will be another hot day across South Louisiana. There are heat advisories posted for the Baton Rouge area eastward and from Alexandria northward. Here in Acadiana, it’s just hot, but not heat advisory hot.
Will South Louisiana Have More Showers and Storms Today?
Rain chances will once again dominate the afternoon hours with a 40% to 70% chance of showers through Friday afternoon. There will also be an excessive rainfall threat for much of the area today, and especially on Thursday.
Unfortunately, for this weekend, temperatures are going to rise into the mid-90s or maybe even above, so we can’t rule out a heat advisory over the weekend and perhaps lingering into Monday. But after next Monday, if the forecast holds, that’s when we could start to feel a bit of a break.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service say a frontal system will push into and across Louisiana during the day on Monday, and by Tuesday, the afternoon temperatures could be 90 degrees or less, and the humidity levels should be lower as well…
